Winter, Spring, Winter, Spring, Winter, Summer 2018
January/ February/ March 2018
It’s hard to remember a winter that was so disruptive for golf. The disappointment of having to cancel competitions was felt by everyone. However, such is the spirit of our membership that despite the conditions we were able to play a large part of our winter fixtures. John Waters started his year in fine style by claiming the Monthly Stableford and in the Winter Scramble the team of Club Captain Graham Jackson, Brian Purton, and John Dixon walked off with the spoils. In February Alan Webb secured his first ever victory in the Midweek Stableford and once again John Waters proved just too good in the February Monthly Stableford. A new fixture on this years calendar was the Greensomes Cup and it certainly proved to be popular with all those that played. The winners of the inaugural event were Alan Best & Dave White.
It’s fair to say that by March everyone was beginning to get just a little racked off with the playing conditions. Overall scoring was difficult. All anyone could do was accept the challenge and hope for the best. Club Captain Graham was the last man standing after a soggy Midweek Stableford and Mark Dowling battled home to claim the Monthly Stableford a few days later. The winter season finally and thankfully came to a close in tradition style in the form of the Better Ball Trophy. A strong field assembled to test their golfing prowess in the difficult conditions. By the close of play no pair were able to dislodge Club Captain Graham and his able partner John Dixon from the top spot and both players were happy with a deserved victory. They were joined by Steve Monks & Keith Squirrell (2nd), Alan Best & Dave White(3rd) and Brian Purton & Dino Grazioli (4th) as the four pairs that qualified for the Match Play Pairs Semi-Finals. The end of the winter season also confirmed that Mark Dowling retained his Winter Eclectic Grown with a commendable score of 62 after the four rounds.
The New Summer Season Fixture list is ready for you to collect from the clubhouse. Bring on the sunshine!!
